Join us on Wednesday 16 June for our Pi Singles walk around Sidbury to Sidford
Sidford – Hollow Head Cross – White Cross – Sidbury – Stevens Cross – Sidford
The walk starts and ends in Sidford, whose facilities include a convenience store, toilets, post office, chemist, fish and chip shop and pub.
Initially, the path goes through farmland, then up to a woodland nature reserve. This is a pleasant area free from visitor centres and information boards. Leaving the reserve, a spectacular view is seen over Ottery St Mary (birthplace of Samuel Taylor Coleridge) to Dartmoor in the far distance.
Next, it’s down to Sidbury, which has many Listed buildings in addition to the Norman church, built on Saxon foundations. Guided tours of the church are available in the summer. Opposite is the Red Lion pub, which keeps to traditional opening hours. In September there is an annual fair that has been run, off and on, since 1291. For more information try www.sidbury.org.uk.
The path continues up through more woodland before descending back to Sidford, with views over the valley to the sea.
